Portsmouth Strike Twice Before Half-Time to See Off Ipswich

ELC POR 2-0 IPS Finished

Portsmouth FC earned an impressive 2–0 home victory over Ipswich Town FC on Championship matchday 26, with two quick-fire goals before the break proving decisive.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute. Conor Shaughnessy finished off a move created by Adrian Segecic, whose assist opened up the Ipswich defence and allowed Portsmouth to take a 1–0 lead.

Just two minutes later, Portsmouth doubled their advantage. Colby Bishop struck in the 44th minute to make it 2–0, giving Ipswich a mountain to climb heading into half-time. No assist was recorded for Bishop’s goal.

The first major flashpoint had arrived on 35 minutes when Portsmouth midfielder Marlon Pack went into the referee’s book. Ipswich’s frustration grew in the closing stages of the match, with late yellow cards shown to Marcelino Núñez in the 81st minute and Jaden Philogene-Bidace in stoppage time. Portsmouth substitute Terry Devlin was also cautioned in the 82nd minute.

Ipswich managerially reacted with a triple substitution on 58 minutes, introducing Anis Mehmeti, Ben Johnson and Jaden Philogene-Bidace for Azor Matusiwa, Darnell Furlong and Kasey McAteer in an attempt to change the game’s momentum. Later, Sindre Egeli and Chuba Akpom came on in the 71st minute for Jack Clarke and Dan Neil, while Portsmouth responded by replacing John Swift with Keshi Anderson at the same time.

Portsmouth managed the closing stages effectively, making further changes as Adrian Segecic was replaced by Jacob Brown on 85 minutes and Millenic Alli made way for Ibane Bowat on 90 minutes.

Beyond the goals, substitutions and cards listed, detailed statistics and minute-by-minute events for this fixture are not available. The result, however, underlines Portsmouth’s strong home form and delivers a setback to Ipswich’s ambitions in the Championship race.
