San Jose Earthquakes produced an impressive turnaround to defeat Sporting Kansas City 3–1 in MLS regular-season play on matchday 7, powered by a brace from Jack Skahan.
Sporting KC struck first in the 27th minute. Jacob Bartlett finished a well-worked move, converting after service from Dejan Joveljić to give the hosts a 1–0 lead.
San Jose grew into the game and found their equaliser just before the break. In the 44th minute, Jack Skahan levelled the score at 1–1, with Niko Tsakiris providing the assist as the visitors punished Sporting for failing to see out the half.
The Earthquakes came out of the interval on the front foot and quickly turned the match on its head. Four minutes after the restart, in the 49th minute, Skahan struck again, this time set up by Preston Judd, to push San Jose in front at 2–1.
Sporting KC’s frustration began to show, with Magomed Suleymanov booked in the 54th minute. Head coach adjustments followed, including a 57th-minute change that saw Capita replace Calvin Harris, and a double substitution on 66 minutes as Jake Davis and Stephen Afrira came on for Manu García and Suleymanov.
San Jose consolidated their advantage in the 75th minute. Defender Dave Romney added a third goal, assisted by Daniel Munie, giving the Earthquakes a commanding 3–1 cushion heading into the final stages.
Further substitutions from both sides could not alter the result. Taylor Calheira, introduced for Bartlett in the 81st minute, later received a yellow card for Sporting in the 82nd minute, underlining a difficult night for the home side.
With the 3–1 victory, San Jose Earthquakes leave Kansas City with all three points, while Sporting are left to regroup after letting an early lead slip. Detailed statistics beyond goals, cards, and substitutions were not available in the official match data.
