AC Monza strengthened their Serie B campaign with a controlled 2–0 home victory over SSC Bari on matchday 34, thanks to second-half goals from Pedro Obiang and Matteo Pessina.
After a goalless first half in which neither side’s key chances are fully documented, Monza found their breakthrough shortly after the restart. In the 50th minute, Pedro Obiang put the hosts ahead, finishing a move created by Andrea Petagna. The goal gave Monza a crucial advantage in a tight contest.
Bari attempted to respond with a flurry of substitutions on 66 minutes, introducing Mehdi Dorval and Matthias Verreth in a double change, while Monza reacted immediately by replacing goalscorer Obiang with Leonardo Colombo and bringing on Giuseppe Caso and Adam Bakoune. The tactical reshuffle would prove decisive for the hosts later on.
The visitors’ frustrations were underlined by a yellow card for Giulio Maggiore on 64 minutes, followed by a booking for Monza forward Petagna in the 70th minute. Bari continued to chase an equaliser, but Monza struck again in the closing stages.
In the 79th minute, captain Matteo Pessina doubled Monza’s lead, converting after good work from substitute Giuseppe Caso. That 2–0 cushion allowed the home side to manage the final minutes, as both coaches turned to their benches once more. Bari sent on Nicolo Cavuoti, Marvin Cuni and Christian Gytkjær in the 82nd and 83rd minutes, while Monza introduced Agustín Álvarez Martínez and later Andrea Carboni.
Bari’s Mehdi Dorval picked up a late yellow card in the 90th minute, capping a difficult evening for the visitors. Monza, meanwhile, saw out the match to claim all three points.
