Linssen and Onal Fire NEC Past Excelsior in Clinical Away Win
NEC strengthened their Eredivisie position with a composed 2-0 win away to SBV Excelsior on matchday 29, decided by goals from Bryan Linssen and Basar Onal.
The visitors broke the deadlock on 30 minutes. Bryan Linssen struck to make it 1-0, finishing a move created by Darko Nejašmić, whose assist unlocked the Excelsior defence. NEC carried that advantage into the break, leaving the hosts needing a strong response in the second half.
Excelsior coach turned to his bench on the hour mark, introducing Irakli Yegoian for Emil Hansson in search of more attacking impetus. A double substitution followed in the 76th minute, with Arthur Zagre and Lennard Hartjes replaced by Simon Janssen and Mike van Duinen as the home side chased an equaliser.
Instead, NEC tightened their grip on the game. In the 71st minute, Basar Onal doubled the lead, finishing after good work from provider Sami Ouaissa to push the score to 2-0 and give the Nijmegen side a crucial cushion.
Protecting their advantage, NEC made several late changes. Onal made way for Dirk Proper on 80 minutes, before Bryan Linssen, Eli Dasa and later Deveron Fonville were all withdrawn for Danilo, Brayann Pereira and Ahmetcan Kaplan respectively as NEC managed the closing stages.
Excelsior continued to rotate in the final minutes, bringing on Adam Carlén and Szymon Włodarczyk at 90 minutes, but the hosts were unable to find a route back into the match and finished the night scoreless.
