PSG Take Commanding First-Leg Lead Over Liverpool in Champions League Quarter-Final
Paris Saint-Germain earned a valuable 2–0 home victory over Liverpool FC on 8 April 2026, putting themselves in a strong position after the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.
The French side made an ideal start when Desire Doué opened the scoring in the 11th minute, giving PSG an early advantage against the visitors. Liverpool were unable to find an immediate response and their task was complicated later in the first half by two bookings in quick succession. Joe Gomez was shown a yellow card in the 28th minute, followed three minutes later by Alexis Mac Allister, as the English club tried to keep PSG’s attack under control.
PSG doubled their lead in the 65th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The forward struck to make it 2–0, finishing a move set up by Joao Neves, whose assist capped a pivotal moment in the tie.
Both coaches turned to their benches in the closing stages. PSG introduced Kang-in Lee for goalscorer Doué in the 78th minute and later brought on Lucas Hernández for Ousmane Dembélé in the 88th minute. Liverpool made a flurry of changes on 78 minutes, sending on Andrew Robertson, Alexander Isak, Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo for Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai and Hugo Ekitike respectively, then introducing Trey Nyoni for Jeremie Frimpong in the 90th minute.
No further goals followed, leaving PSG with a two-goal cushion to defend in the return leg. Detailed statistics beyond goals, cards and substitutions were not available at the time of writing.
