Preston Held by Late Own Goal as QPR Snatch Point at Deepdale

Preston North End FC were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw against Queens Park Rangers FC on Championship matchday 41, as a late own goal denied the hosts victory at Deepdale on 6 April 2026.

After a goalless first half, Preston made an immediate impact following the interval. In the 46th minute, Brad Potts broke the deadlock, finishing a move created by Alfie Devine to give the home side a 1–0 lead. The goal came shortly after a half-time substitution for Preston, with Pol Valentín Sancho replacing Odel Offiah.

Preston appeared to be closing in on all three points, but QPR were handed a route back into the game late on. In the 82nd minute, substitute Thierry Small inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, bringing the visitors level at 1–1. The own goal came just 16 minutes after Small had entered the pitch in place of Andrija Vukčević.

The match featured a number of cautions, with QPR seeing three players booked: Jonathan Varane in the 13th minute, Kieran Morgan in the 65th, and Jake Clarke-Salter in stoppage time at 90 minutes. Preston’s Lewis Gibson was also shown a yellow card in the 76th minute.

Both managers turned to their benches in search of a decisive moment. Alongside Preston’s changes involving Pol Valentín, Small, Andrew Moran and Daniel Jebbison, QPR introduced Kwame Poku, Daniel Bennie, Isaac Hayden and Clarke-Salter across the second half.

The draw leaves both sides sharing the points in the late stages of the regular Championship season. Detailed data beyond goals, bookings and substitutions was not available at the time of writing.
