Chapecoense AF and EC Vitória shared the points in a dramatic 1–1 draw on matchday 10 of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, with both goals arriving in the closing minutes after the visitors had been reduced to 10 men before half-time.
The game turned on a chaotic spell in the first half for Vitória midfielder Edenilson. Booked in the 37th minute, he received a second card just a minute later and was sent off, leaving the visitors to play more than 50 minutes a man down. Ronald was also cautioned for Vitória before the interval, underlining a tense opening period.
Chapecoense made early adjustments, introducing Marcos Vinicius for Everton as early as the 18th minute following a yellow card for the latter, and later brought on attacking options in search of a breakthrough. Vitória, for their part, reshuffled extensively at the break and in the second half, with Nathan, Carlos Renê, Luan Cândido and Anderson all entering the fray.
The hosts finally broke the deadlock in the 87th minute. Substitute Neto Pessoa struck to make it 1–0, finishing a move created by Marcos Vinicius, who provided the assist after his long stint off the bench.
Vitória, however, refused to fold. In the 89th minute they introduced Matheuzinho, and the forward had an immediate impact. Deep into stoppage time, at 90+3 minutes, he converted a penalty to level the match at 1–1, salvaging a valuable away point for the Salvador side despite their numerical disadvantage.
There was further late tension as both Marcos Vinicius and Vitória defender Ramon received yellow cards in the 89th minute. Earlier bookings went to Anderson and Cacá for Vitória and to Everton for Chapecoense.
