Real Oviedo earned a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Sevilla FC on Sunday afternoon, with Federico Viñas providing the decisive moment in a Primera Division clash that turned on a first-half red card.
The hosts struck in the 32nd minute when Viñas finished off a move created by Alberto Reina, whose assist set up the forward to make it 1–0. The goal ultimately separated the sides on matchday 30, giving Oviedo an important home win against one of Spanish football’s established names.
Viñas had already been in the referee’s notebook following a yellow card in the 13th minute, but Sevilla’s disciplinary record proved far more costly. Central defender Nianzou Kouassi was sent off in the 38th minute, leaving the visitors to chase the game with ten men for more than half the match. Jose Angel Carmona was also booked before being substituted at half-time as Sevilla reshaped following the dismissal.
Both coaches turned to their benches after the break. Sevilla introduced Castrin and Manuel Bueno at the interval and later brought on Isaac, Gabriel Suazo and Chidera Ejuke in search of an equaliser. Real Oviedo responded with their own changes, withdrawing goalscorer Viñas for Thiago Borbas and later introducing experienced playmaker Santi Cazorla, along with Santiago Colombatto, Haissem Hassan and Rahim Alhassane to help manage the closing stages.
The second half featured a series of yellow cards on both sides, including bookings for Javi López, Kike Salas, Manuel Bueno, Nicolas Fonseca, Eric Bailly and Ilyas Chaira, as tensions rose while Oviedo protected their narrow advantage.
Despite Sevilla’s efforts, Real Oviedo held firm to secure the three points. Detailed statistics beyond the goals, cards and substitutions are not available from this match.
