Union Berlin Fight Back to Hold Ten-Man St. Pauli in Bundesliga Draw
1. FC Union Berlin came from behind to earn a 1–1 home draw against FC St. Pauli 1910 on Matchday 28 of the Bundesliga, with the visitors finishing the game with ten men after a late dismissal for Jackson Irvine.
St. Pauli struck first in the 25th minute. Mathias Pereira Lage put the visitors ahead with a regular-time effort that made it 0–1, giving the promoted side an early advantage in this top-flight clash.
Union responded after the break. In the 52nd minute, Andrej Ilic levelled the score at 1–1, finishing a move set up by Derrick Köhn, whose assist brought the hosts back into the contest.
Both coaches turned to their benches as the game moved into its final half hour. St. Pauli introduced Andreas Hountondji for Martijn Kaars on 60 minutes, before Connor Metcalfe replaced Joel Fujita in the 73rd minute. Union made a double shift of their own in the second half, bringing on Alex Král for Jeong Wooyeong in the 73rd minute, followed by Ilyas Ansah for Oliver Burke in the 80th minute and Tom Rothe for Derrick Köhn in the 81st minute. St. Pauli later sent on Abdoulie Ceesay for Mathias Rasmussen in the 89th minute.
St. Pauli captain Jackson Irvine received a yellow card in the 85th minute and was then shown a second booking, resulting in a yellow-red card, in the 90th minute, leaving the visitors to see out the final moments a player short.
With neither side able to find a winner after Ilic’s equaliser, the points were shared. Further detailed match statistics and events beyond the recorded goals, bookings and substitutions were not available at the time of writing.
