Early Bologna Blitz Edges Cremonese in Fiery Serie A Clash

Bologna FC 1909 made a blistering start and then survived a tense finale to defeat US Cremonese 2–1 on matchday 31 of Serie A.

The visitors seized control almost immediately. In the 3rd minute, João Mário Lopes finished off an incisive move, turning in a pass from Juan Miranda to give Bologna an early 1–0 lead. Miranda was the provider again on 16 minutes, this time setting up Jonathan Rowe, who doubled the advantage and left Cremonese with a mountain to climb.

Cremonese struggled to find a way back before the break and their frustration was underlined when Youssef Maleh was booked on the stroke of half-time. The hosts responded with a triple substitution at the interval, introducing Morten Thorsby, Warren Bondo and David Okereke in a bid to change the game, and later adding Martín Payero shortly after the restart.

Bologna managed their lead through the second half and freshened their attack with the introduction of Riccardo Orsolini on 61 minutes, followed by Nicolò Cambiaghi and Lewis Ferguson in the 78th minute. Further changes saw Nadir Zortea and Tommaso Pobega come on with eight minutes remaining as the visitors tried to see out the result.

The match boiled over in stoppage time. Cremonese finally broke through when Federico Bonazzoli converted a 90+1 minute penalty to make it 2–1, but the closing stages were marred by cards. Maleh received a straight red for the hosts in the 90th minute, while Payero was also cautioned. For Bologna, Lewis Ferguson picked up a yellow and then a second yellow that turned into a red in the same dramatic spell.

Despite the late scare and both sides finishing with ten men, Bologna held firm to secure all three points. Detailed statistics and further match events were not available beyond the goals, bookings and substitutions provided.
