Uli Hoeneß has named Achraf Hakimi as the Paris Saint-Germain player he would most like to see at Bayern Munich, offering rare insight into the club’s thinking ahead of their Champions League meeting.
Speaking to DAZN, the Bayern honorary president did not hesitate when asked which PSG player would fit best in Munich. “Hakimi — they’d snap him up straight away because he’d fit in well with us,” he said, highlighting the Moroccan’s profile as an ideal match for Bayern’s system.
Bayern assessing right-back options
Despite Hoeneß’s admiration, Bayern are not short of options at right-back. Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić have both filled the role this season, providing tactical flexibility across the back line.
However, uncertainty remains over the long-term structure of the position. Laimer’s contract runs until 2027, but his role is not fully settled, while Stanišić’s ability to operate at centre-back has prompted the club to consider additional depth.
Bayern’s current recruitment focus appears to be elsewhere. Reports indicate that Feyenoord’s 19-year-old right-back Givairo Read is a leading target, suggesting the club may prioritize a younger, long-term investment over an established star like Hakimi.
Hakimi’s rise to elite level
Hakimi has long been on Bayern’s radar. The club was previously linked with a move for him in 2020, when he completed a two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, but he ultimately returned to Real Madrid before moving on again.
His career has since accelerated rapidly. After joining Inter Milan, he spent just one season in Italy before securing a €68 million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
At PSG, Hakimi has developed into one of the world’s leading right-backs. He finished sixth in the Ballon d’Or voting last year and has remained a key contributor this season, registering three goals and nine assists in 31 appearances.
Injury rules him out of clash
PSG will be without Hakimi for the upcoming Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern after he sustained a thigh injury late in the first leg. The club expects him to be sidelined for several weeks.
His absence removes one of PSG’s most dynamic attacking outlets from the tie, potentially altering the balance of a high-stakes encounter between two of Europe’s strongest sides.
