Harry Maguire has made a bold Premier League title claim by suggesting Arsenal are currently a better team than Manchester City.

The Manchester United defender has faced both title contenders this season and believes Mikel Arteta’s side have been the tougher opponent. Despite City’s long-standing dominance under Pep Guardiola, Maguire feels Arsenal’s structure, defensive strength and consistency give them the edge.

Speaking on The Overlap, Maguire explained that Arsenal’s organisation made them extremely difficult to play against.

“I’ve played both. Honestly, I always thought Arsenal were the better team when we played them,” Maguire said. “Just because, honestly, they give you nothing. They were so solid.”

The England international pointed to United’s win at the Emirates as an example of how hard Arsenal are to break down, even when they lose.

“We beat them at the Emirates, but we didn’t create much and we scored two worldies,” he added. “We played well that day, but we didn’t actually create too much inside the box. Arsenal defend the box so well.”

Arsenal currently sit two points clear of City at the top of the Premier League table and are chasing their first league title in 22 years. While City remain the benchmark after years of success under Guardiola, Maguire believes the Gunners now have the tools to finish the job.

His praise focused especially on Arsenal’s balance. They are not only strong defensively, but also dangerous in transition and capable of controlling matches without giving opponents many clear chances.

Maguire also made his title prediction clear during his conversation with Ian Wright, backing Arsenal to stay ahead of City.

“I always thought you’d have enough. I still think you’ll have enough,” he said.

The comments are likely to spark debate, particularly because they come from a Manchester United player talking about two major rivals. But Maguire’s view is based on direct experience, and his verdict will only add to the belief around Arsenal as the title race enters its decisive stage.
