Samuel Costa Strike Earns Mallorca Narrow Win at Girona
RCD Mallorca claimed a valuable 1–0 away win over Girona FC on Friday night, with Samuel Almeida Costa’s precise first-half finish proving the difference on matchday 34 of the Primera Division regular season.
The visitors struck in the 43rd minute. Johan Mojica advanced down the flank and picked out Samuel Costa, who converted to give Mallorca a lead they would not relinquish. The goal arrived at a key moment, just before the interval, and shifted the momentum in favour of the Balearic side.
Girona looked to respond after the break but found Mallorca difficult to break down. The hosts’ frustration was underlined by a series of bookings, with Viktor Tsyhankov cautioned on 45 minutes, followed in the second half by yellow cards for Vitor Reis and late substitute Thomas Lemar.
Mallorca also picked up bookings of their own, as Pablo Maffeo and Mojica were shown yellow cards in the second period. Both coaches turned to their benches in search of an edge: Mallorca introduced Jan Virgili at half-time and later Zito Luvumbo, Antonio Sánchez, Javier Llabres and David López, while Girona brought on veteran forward Cristhian Stuani and winger Bryan Gil, along with Hugo Rincón and Lemar.
Despite the attacking changes, Girona could not find an equaliser, and Mallorca saw out the final stages to secure all three points. The result ends the match with a 1–0 scoreline in favour of the visitors.
Only basic match events — the decisive goal, substitutions and bookings — were available at the time of writing, and detailed statistics such as shots, possession or clear chances were not provided in the official data feed.
