Sallói and Judd Strike Early as Toronto FC and San Jose Share the Points
Toronto FC and San Jose Earthquakes settled for a 1–1 draw on Matchday 11 of the MLS regular season, with all the scoring packed into the opening 15 minutes before a tense but goalless remainder at BMO Field.
The hosts started at full throttle and were rewarded almost immediately. In the 2nd minute, Dániel Sallói put Toronto ahead, finishing a move set up by Jonathan Osorio to give the home side a dream start at 1–0.
San Jose, however, responded swiftly. In the 13th minute, Preston Judd levelled the match, converting after good work from Niko Tsakiris to make it 1–1 and silence the early home celebrations.
The first half also saw the Earthquakes pick up two yellow cards, with Beau Leroux booked in the 17th minute and Ronaldo Vieira cautioned in the 37th, underlining the physical edge to the contest.
Toronto adjusted at the break, introducing Micah Chisholm for Lazar Stefanović at half-time. San Jose replied with a series of second-half changes of their own, including Nick Fernandez for Tsakiris on 54 minutes, followed by a double switch in the 66th minute as Paul Marie replaced Judd and Ian Harkes came on for Jack Skahan.
The home side continued to rotate in search of a winner, bringing on Derrick Etienne and Deandre Kerr around the 67th minute, followed later by Antone Bossenberry and a late appearance from Walker Zimmerman in second-half stoppage time. Toronto’s Jonathan Osorio and Alonso Coello Camarero were booked in the 75th and 90th minutes respectively as tensions rose late on.
