Port Vale and Wigan Play Out Goalless Stalemate in League One Run-In

Port Vale FC and Wigan Athletic FC played out a 0–0 draw on Sunday in their League One clash, as neither side could find a breakthrough on matchday 44 of the regular season.

With detailed match events such as chances and saves unavailable, the key moments that can be confirmed came via substitutions from both dugouts and a late card for the visitors.

Port Vale looked to freshen their attack immediately after the interval, introducing Martin Sherif for Dajaune Brown at half-time. Further changes followed on the hour mark and beyond, as the hosts sought extra energy in wide and midfield areas. Onel Hernández made way for Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel in the 68th minute, before Liam Gordon was replaced by Jaheim Headley three minutes later. In the closing stages, Port Vale turned again to their bench, bringing on Ben Waine for Ryan Croasdale and George Hall for Jordan Shipley in the 78th minute.

Wigan Athletic also used their bench extensively in an effort to tilt the balance. On 60 minutes, Ryan Trevitt replaced Dara Costelloe. A double switch followed in the 74th minute, with Harrison Bettoni coming on for Matthew Smith and Joseph Hungbo replacing Raphael Borges Rodrigues. Christian Saydee was introduced late on, taking the place of Callum Wright in the 86th minute.

The only booking recorded arrived right at the end of normal time, as Wigan defender James Carragher was shown a yellow card in the 90th minute.

With neither side able to convert their second-half adjustments into a decisive moment, the match finished goalless. The result adds a single point apiece as both clubs edge towards the conclusion of their League One campaigns.
