Nordi Mukiele fired Sunderland AFC to a notable 1–0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday, clinching all three points in a tight Premier League clash on matchday 32.
The decisive moment arrived in the 61st minute. Mukiele struck for the hosts after being set up by Habib Diarra, capping a key spell of pressure with the only goal of the game. The finish put Sunderland 1–0 up and they never relinquished the advantage.
The contest was combative from early on, with the referee turning to his pocket several times before the interval. Tottenham defender Christian Romero was booked in the 28th minute, followed by yellow cards for Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey (33′) and Spurs duo Mickey van de Ven and Pedro Porro, who were both cautioned in the 37th minute.
Tottenham bossed their changes shortly after Mukiele’s breakthrough, making a triple substitution on 62 minutes in search of a response. Richarlison, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray made way for Mathys Tel, Pape Sarr and João Palhinha respectively, while Kevin Danso later replaced Romero on 70 minutes as the visitors pushed for an equaliser.
Sunderland turned to their own bench late on to protect the lead. Chris Rigg, already booked in the 75th minute, was withdrawn for Chemsdine Talbi in the 82nd minute, with goal-scorer Mukiele also replaced by Trai Hume at the same time. Hume would go into the book in the 90th minute, shortly after Wilson Isidor came on for Brobbey.
Tottenham introduced Xavi Simons for Conor Gallagher in the 85th minute, but the visitors could not find a route back into the match. Sunderland saw out the closing stages to secure a clean sheet and a valuable victory.
