Late Clarke Penalty Earns Ipswich Vital Point Against Middlesbrough

Ipswich Town FC battled back late to claim a 2–2 draw against Middlesbrough FC in the Championship on Sunday, with Jack Clarke converting an 87th-minute penalty to secure a point on matchday 43.

Middlesbrough struck first in the 25th minute when Dávid Strelec opened the scoring. The forward finished a move created by Alan Browne, and his goal gave the visitors an early edge. Ipswich responded quickly, however, as Kasey McAteer levelled the match just five minutes later. McAteer found the net in the 30th minute after being set up by Ivan Azón, restoring parity before the interval.

After the break, Middlesbrough regained control in the 64th minute. Tommy Conway put the visitors back in front with a regular-time strike, giving Boro a 2–1 lead heading into the closing stages.

Ipswich manager’s bench made several attacking changes, including the introduction of Clarke and Anis Mehmeti shortly after Conway’s goal, followed later by Sindre Egeli, George Hirst and Dan Neil. Middlesbrough also freshened their attack with Jeremy Sarmiento, Sam Silvera and Morgan Whittaker coming on from the bench.

The pressure from Ipswich eventually told when the hosts were awarded a late penalty, which Clarke converted in the 87th minute to make it 2–2. The closing moments were tense, with a flurry of yellow cards shown deep into regulation and added time, including bookings for Matt Targett, Adilson Malanda, Dan Neil, Darnell Furlong, Callum Brittain and Jeremy Sarmiento.

This draw keeps both sides wrestling for position in the Championship table as the season enters its final stretch.
