Hoffenheim edge Hamburg as Asllani and Lemperle strike in crucial away win
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim earned an important 2–1 away win over Hamburger SV on Bundesliga Matchday 31, finishing the job before half-time and holding firm through a tense second period.
The visitors struck first on 19 minutes. Fisnik Asllani finished off a move started down the right by Vladimir Coufal, whose assist set up the forward to put Hoffenheim 1–0 ahead.
Hamburg hit back from the spot in the 34th minute. Robert Glatzel converted a penalty to level the score at 1–1 and briefly swing the momentum towards the hosts.
Hoffenheim regained control just before the interval. In the 45th minute, Tim Lemperle restored the visitors’ lead with a regular-time strike, assisted by Albian Hajdari, sending Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side into the break 2–1 up. That goal ultimately decided the contest, as there were no further changes to the scoreline after half-time.
The match was competitive from the outset. Robin Hranac picked up a yellow card as early as the eighth minute for Hoffenheim, and goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was also booked in the 32nd minute. After the break, Hamburg’s Nicolai Remberg was cautioned on 49 minutes, while Grischa Prömel and Wouter Burger saw yellow for Hoffenheim in the 68th and 71st minutes respectively. Albert Sambi Lokonga received Hamburg’s second booking in stoppage time at 90 minutes.
Both coaches turned to their benches in search of control and fresh energy. Bernardo came on for Hranac at half-time, with further changes including Grischa Prömel for Asllani on 64 minutes and Max Moerstedt replacing Lemperle late on. Hamburg withdrew Glatzel just after the hour, introducing Otto Stange, and later brought on Albert Sambi Lokonga, Giorgi Gocholeishvili, Rayan Philippe and Damion Downs as they chased an equaliser.
Despite Hamburg’s second-half adjustments, Hoffenheim preserved their narrow advantage to take all three points. Detailed data beyond goals, bookings and substitutions was not available at the time of writing.
