Early Twente Surge Edges Volendam in 2–1 Eredivisie Win

FC Twente ’65 claimed a 2–1 home win over FC Volendam on matchday 30 of the Eredivisie, building a decisive first-half lead before withstanding a second-half fightback from the visitors.

The hosts struck almost immediately. In the 2nd minute, Ruud Nijstad opened the scoring for Twente, finishing a move created by Sam Lammers to make it 1–0. The early breakthrough set the tone for a dominant first period from the home side.

Twente doubled their advantage in the 34th minute, again with Lammers at the heart of the action. The forward supplied a second assist, this time for Kristian Hlynsson, whose finish put the hosts 2–0 up and in apparent control before the interval.

Volendam’s first half was further complicated when Gibbo Yah received a yellow card in the 23rd minute. He was withdrawn at half-time for Aurelio Oehlers as the visitors looked for a way back into the contest.

Those changes paid off after the break. Volendam introduced Robert Mühren on 62 minutes and later Nordin Bukala on 72 minutes, with the pair combining to halve the deficit. In the 74th minute, Bukala found the net from a Mühren assist to make it 2–1 and set up a tense finale.

Twente responded with a series of substitutions aimed at shoring up their lead, including the introduction of Max Bruns and Taylor Booth in the 75th minute. Booth later picked up a yellow card on 85 minutes as the hosts dug in to protect their advantage. Robin Pröpper came on in the 89th minute to help Twente see out the result.
