Brighton Sweep Past Chelsea 3–0 with Statement Premier League Win
Brighton & Hove Albion delivered one of their standout performances of the Premier League season with a commanding 3–0 home victory over Chelsea on matchday 34.
The hosts made the perfect start, taking the lead inside three minutes. Ferdi Kadıoğlu struck early to put Brighton 1–0 up, immediately placing Chelsea on the back foot and setting the tone for the evening.
Chelsea’s frustrations grew as the first half wore on, capped by a yellow card for defender Wesley Fofana just before the interval. He was substituted at half-time, with Alejandro Garnacho introduced as the visitors looked for a route back into the match.
Instead, Brighton tightened their grip after the break. In the 56th minute, Jack Hinshelwood doubled the advantage, finishing a move created by Georginio Rutter, whose assist rewarded Brighton’s sustained pressure and attacking intent.
Both managers turned to their benches during the second half. Brighton adjusted their shape with Joël Veltman coming on at the restart and later brought on Maxim De Cuyper, Yasin Ayari and Danny Welbeck, while Chelsea introduced Marc Guiu and Dario Essugo in search of a response that never materialised.
Brighton saw out the contest professionally and added further gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time. In the 90th minute plus one, Welbeck, on as a late substitute, made it 3–0 with a goal set up by De Cuyper, sealing an emphatic result for the home side.
Yankubah Minteh received Brighton’s only booking of the night in the 58th minute, but it did little to disrupt a controlled display from the hosts.
With limited match data beyond goals, cards and substitutions, further detailed events such as overall statistics and specific chances are unavailable. However, the scoreline alone underlines Brighton’s superiority and hands Chelsea a sobering defeat in the closing stretch of the Premier League campaign.
