Berisha Strike Earns Kaiserslautern Narrow Win at Hertha
1. FC Kaiserslautern claimed an important away win in the 2. Bundesliga, edging Hertha BSC 1–0 in Berlin on Matchday 29. The visitors settled the contest shortly after half-time through Mërgim Berisha, then saw out the result despite late pressure from the hosts.
After a goalless first half, Kaiserslautern made the breakthrough in the 47th minute. Berisha finished a move created by Semih Sahin, whose assist set up the forward to put the visitors 1–0 ahead. It was the game’s only goal, and it forced Hertha to chase the match for the remainder of the second period.
Hertha’s response included an attacking triple substitution in the 64th minute. Kennet Eichhorn, Niklas Kolbe and Dawid Kownacki made way for Maurice Krattenmacher, Michał Karbownik and Jan Luca Schuler as the home side looked to inject fresh energy. Later, Deyovaisio Zeefuik was replaced by Julian Eitschberger in the 70th minute, and Kevin Sessa came off for Jeremy Dudziak in the 83rd minute.
The hosts’ growing urgency also brought disciplinary trouble. Zeefuik received a yellow card in the 59th minute, and his replacement Eitschberger was booked in the 78th minute as Hertha pushed for an equaliser but struggled to break down the visitors.
Kaiserslautern’s head coach responded with his own changes to protect the lead. Kenny Prince Redondo and Simon Asta were withdrawn on 66 minutes for Norman Bassette and Paul Joly, while Sahin made way for Luca Sirch in the 76th minute. In the closing stages, Marlon Ritter and goalscorer Berisha were replaced by Leon Robinson and Daniel Hanslik in the 82nd minute to help see out the result.
