Stockport Finish in Style as Norwood and Andrésson Sink Barnsley

Stockport County closed their League One season on a high with a 3–1 victory away to Barnsley FC on matchday 46, overturning a second-half fightback from the hosts with two late goals.

Adama Sidibeh put Stockport in front on 23 minutes, finishing to give the visitors an early advantage. Barnsley responded after the interval, drawing level in the 52nd minute when Adam Phillips struck, converting after a delivery from Corey O’Keeffe to make it 1–1 and briefly tilt momentum towards the home side.

The turning point arrived in the 71st minute as Stockport were awarded a penalty. Oliver Norwood stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to restore County’s lead at 2–1. Norwood later found his way into the referee’s book in added time, one of several late cautions as tensions rose.

Chasing an equaliser, Barnsley made a flurry of substitutions, including the withdrawal of goalscorer Phillips for Charlie Lennon on 64 minutes and later introductions for Marc Roberts, Leo Farrell, Kelechi Nwakali and Scott Banks. Stockport also freshened their side, with Benoný Andrésson and Isaac Olaofe among those brought on just after the hour.

It was Andrésson who put the result beyond doubt deep into stoppage time. In the 90th minute plus nine, he finished off a move created by Odin Bailey to make it 3–1 and secure the points for the visitors.

Jonathan Bland picked up Barnsley’s only booking on 40 minutes, while Stockport’s Lewis Fiorini, Norwood and Ethan Pye were all shown yellow cards late on. No further detailed statistics, line-ups or attendance figures were available at the time of writing.
