The second half brought a raft of changes as both coaches sought to tilt the balance. Rubin made the first move in the 55th minute, introducing Daler Kuzyaev for Nikita Vasilyev. Orenburg responded on the hour mark, with Feyttullah Gurluk replacing Renat Golybin.

A spiky spell around the 54th minute saw yellow cards shown to Rubin forward Mirlind Daku and Orenburg defender Aleksey Tataev. Orenburg’s Evgeniy Bolotov was later cautioned in the 87th minute as tensions rose towards the end.

Rubin looked for fresh impetus in the final third of the game, bringing on Daniil Kuznetsov and Ilya Rozhkov in the 71st and 72nd minutes respectively. Orenburg replied with a triple change on 79 minutes, sending on Danila Vedernikov, Ruslan Kul and Damian Puebla in place of Alexis Cantero, Jordhy Thompson and the booked Du Queiroz.
