Rayo Vallecano Stun Real Sociedad With Dramatic 99th‑Minute Equaliser in Six-Goal Thriller
Rayo Vallecano de Madrid produced a stunning late fightback to draw 3–3 with Real Sociedad de Fútbol in a pulsating Primera Division clash on matchday 32, capped by a 99th-minute equaliser from Alexandre Alemão.
Real Sociedad struck first on 22 minutes when Mikel Oyarzabal finished from close range after good work by Ander Barrenetxea. Rayo responded before the break, levelling in the 30th minute as Sergio Camello converted following a pass from Ilias Akhomach.
The visitors regained control after half-time. In the 63rd minute, Orri Oskarsson put La Real back in front, turning in a move created by Sergio Gómez. Oyarzabal then appeared to put the game beyond Rayo in the 76th minute, calmly dispatching a penalty to make it 3–1.
But Rayo refused to fold. Defender Florian Lejeune sparked hope in the 84th minute, pulling one back at 3–2 after another assist from the influential Akhomach. Deep into stoppage time, the hosts completed the comeback: Pedro Díaz slipped in Alexandre Alemão, who struck in the 90+9th minute to send Vallecas into raptures and seal a dramatic 3–3 draw.
The match was fiercely contested, with a flurry of bookings. Isi Palazón was shown yellow in the first half and later sent off with a straight red in the 90th minute, while Real Sociedad’s Sergio Gómez, Orri Oskarsson, Takefusa Kubo and Carlos Soler were all cautioned. Rayo’s Pathé Ciss, Nobel Mendy, Andrei Rațiu, Lejeune and Alemão also went into the referee’s book.
Both coaches turned to their benches in search of control, with notable introductions including Pedro Díaz and Jorge de Frutos for Rayo, and Luka Sučić and Yangel Herrera for Real Sociedad. Despite the tactical tweaks, the game swung wildly in the closing stages.
Beyond the goals, cards and substitutions, more detailed match statistics were not immediately available. Full match information can be found on Ballaxy, with additional coverage of the Primera Division and team profiles for Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad.
