Own Goal Costs Real Sociedad as Getafe Claim Valuable Away Win
Real Sociedad de Fútbol fell to a narrow 1–0 defeat against Getafe CF on matchday 33 of the Primera Division, with an unfortunate own goal from Jon Gorrotxategi proving decisive in San Sebastián.
The contest was ultimately settled in the 29th minute. Under pressure in his own area, Gorrotxategi diverted the ball into his own net, handing Getafe a lead they successfully protected for the remainder of the match. The goal was officially recorded as an own goal for the Real Sociedad defender, putting the visitors 1–0 up and reshaping the tone of the evening.
The first half was marked by a flurry of bookings around the key moment. Abdelkabir Abqar was cautioned for Getafe in the 27th minute, and shortly after the own goal Real Sociedad forward Orri Oskarsson went into the book on 31 minutes. Getafe’s Juan Iglesias followed with a yellow card in the 37th minute, before Pablo Marín was shown a caution for the hosts just before the interval.
Real Sociedad coach turned to his bench at half-time, replacing Aritz Elustondo with Jon Aramburu as the home side looked for a way back. Further changes came on 56 minutes, with Ander Barrenetxea and Mikel Oyarzabal introduced for Pablo Marín and Brais Méndez in an attacking reshuffle.
Getafe responded with substitutions of their own, bringing on Javi Muñoz for Mario Martín on 68 minutes, then Allan Nyom and Diego Rico in the 80th minute to add fresh legs and defensive stability. Late in the game, both sides continued to rotate: Luis Vázquez made way for Adri Liso for Getafe, while Real Sociedad introduced Beñat Turrientes and Jon Karrikaburu in the closing stages.
The final minutes grew increasingly tense, reflected in a spate of yellow cards around the 90th minute for Sebastián Boselli, Nyom, Luis Milla and Real Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro. Despite Real Sociedad’s efforts after the break, the hosts could not find an equaliser, and Getafe held on for an important away victory.
