Norwich Edge Derby 2–1 as Gibbs Delivers Second-Half Winner

Norwich City claimed a hard-fought 2–1 win over Derby County in the Championship on matchday 44, securing all three points thanks to goals from Mohamed Toure and Liam Gibbs.

The hosts took control in the first half and were rewarded on 33 minutes. Mohamed Toure finished off a well-worked move, converting after being set up by Amankwah Forson to put Norwich 1–0 ahead. Toure later went into the book just before the interval, joining Derby’s Ben Brereton, who had been cautioned in the 19th minute.

Derby responded after the break. In the 54th minute, David Ozoh drew the visitors level, finishing from a pass by Carlton Morris to make it 1–1 and shift the momentum. The parity lasted only six minutes, though, as Norwich restored their lead on the hour mark. Liam Gibbs struck the decisive goal, assisted by Edmond-Paris Maghoma, to put the home side 2–1 up.

Norwich made their first change shortly after going back in front, with Mathias Kvistgaarden replacing goalscorer Toure on 62 minutes. Derby reacted with a triple substitution on 67 minutes, introducing Lars-Jørgen Salvesen, Craig Forsyth and Max Johnston in place of Jaydon Banel, Derry Murkin and Brereton.

As the game moved into its closing stages, Derby brought on Oscar Fraulo and later Owen Eames, while Norwich freshened their midfield with Errol Mundle-Smith and Anis Ben Slimane, before Sam Field replaced Jack Stacey in the 88th minute.

Derby’s late push was accompanied by yellow cards for Lewis Travis (82′) and Matt Clarke (88′), but Norwich held firm to secure the victory. The result adds an important three points for the Canaries in the Championship run-in.
