Idah Brace Sparks Late Swansea Surge in Final-Day Win Over Charlton
Swansea City AFC closed out their Championship season in style with a dramatic late 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic FC on matchday 46, powered by a brace from substitute Adam Idah.
With detailed first-half events unavailable, the contest remained goalless on the scoresheet until the final quarter, when Swansea’s changes made the difference. Head coach decisions to introduce Leo Walta on 36 minutes and Adam Idah on 65 minutes would prove decisive in a tense finale.
Idah broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, finishing after being set up by Josh Key to give Swansea a 1-0 lead. Charlton hit back swiftly, however, as another substitute combination levelled the match on 79 minutes: Miles Leaburn, brought on around the hour mark, converted from a pass by Sonny Carey to make it 1-1.
Swansea responded almost immediately. In the 82nd minute, Idah struck again, this time assisted by fellow substitute Thomas Woodward, restoring the hosts’ advantage at 2-1. The Welsh side then secured the points in the 88th minute when Walta, who had replaced Melker Widell in the first half, added a third without an assist recorded.
Both managers leaned heavily on their benches throughout the second half. Swansea introduced Jay Fulton at the break and later Woodward and Joel Ward, while Charlton turned to Joe Rankin-Costello, Leaburn, Carey, Luke Berry and Charlie Kelman as they chased the game.
No bookings were registered in the available data, and further statistics, lineups and first-half details are not provided. The result nonetheless ensures Swansea finish their regular season on a positive note, while Charlton leave South Wales empty-handed after briefly threatening a comeback.
