Deniz Gul Brace Fires FC Porto Past Estrela da Amadora in Primeira Liga

FC Porto secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory away to CF Estrela da Amadora on matchday 31 of the Primeira Liga, with Deniz Gul delivering a decisive first-half brace.

The visitors took control early. After Estrela’s Kevin Höög-Jansson was booked in the 15th minute, Porto soon capitalised: Deniz Gul converted a penalty in the 17th minute to open the scoring and put the away side 1–0 up.

Gul doubled Porto’s advantage in the 37th minute, finishing a move assisted by Alberto Baio to make it 2–0. His second goal gave Porto a firm grip on the match heading into half-time, although the forward was later cautioned himself in the 24th minute.

Estrela da Amadora responded with a triple substitution at the break, introducing Jefferson Encada, Jovane Cabral and Paulo Moreira in search of a way back into the game. Porto adjusted shortly after the hour mark, with Terem Moffi among the players brought on as Gul made way.

The hosts finally found a lifeline in the 79th minute. Substitute Jovane Cabral reduced the deficit to 2–1 with a regular-play strike, set up by Sydney van Hooijdonk, giving Estrela late hope of a comeback.

Both sides used their benches heavily in the final stages and the game grew increasingly tense, reflected in a flurry of yellow cards. Terem Moffi, Stefan Lekovic, Sydney van Hooijdonk and Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa were all cautioned in the closing minutes.
