Cancellieri and Bašić Strike as Clinical Lazio Sink Napoli in Serie A

SS Lazio claimed an impressive 2–0 away victory over SSC Napoli on matchday 33 of Serie A, capitalising on a fast start and a composed second-half display.

The visitors struck first after just six minutes. Matteo Cancellieri finished off an early Lazio move to make it 1–0, with Kenneth Taylor providing the assist. The goal gave Lazio immediate control of the contest and forced Napoli onto the back foot.

Napoli’s frustrations were underlined when Stanislav Lobotka received a yellow card in the 29th minute, before Danilo Cataldi was booked four minutes later for Lazio as the first half grew increasingly tense.

At half-time, Napoli responded with a double substitution, introducing Alisson Santos for André Zambo Anguissa and Eljif Elmas for Kevin De Bruyne in an effort to inject fresh impetus. However, Lazio extended their advantage shortly before the hour mark.

In the 57th minute, Toma Bašić doubled the lead, finishing a move set up by Cancellieri to put Lazio 2–0 up. The goal proved decisive and triggered a flurry of tactical changes from both sides.

Lazio adjusted on 61 minutes, bringing on Patric for Cataldi, Boulaye Dia for Mattia Zaccagni and Oliver Nielsen for Gila. Napoli replied two minutes later, with Giovane Nascimento replacing the booked Lobotka and Miguel Gutiérrez coming on for Leonardo Spinazzola. Matteo Politano later made way for Pasquale Mazzocchi in the 72nd minute.

Bašić was withdrawn for Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in the 71st minute, and Elseid Hysaj replaced Manuel Lazzari for Lazio in the 82nd minute as the visitors managed the closing stages. Taylor and Dia both picked up yellow cards in the second half, at 60 and 90 minutes respectively, but Lazio held firm to secure the clean sheet.
